ABOUT THE PROJECT
whatem choo has brought together a diverse blend of outstanding musicians, vocal groups, and music educators to create a CD especially for little kids. These passionate artists have composed, arranged and recorded songs that will have kids grooving in no time; they will be clapping their hands and tapping their toes from the very first track. A smorgasbord of musical styles and cultures will have kids singing like a folk singer, moving like a rapper, playing in a one-man-band and dancing the swing. With a combination of Geelong’s accomplished musicians and talented kids, whatem choo provides just the right balance of familiar sing-a-long tunes and exciting new material.

Toddlers and preschoolers participate in a range of exciting musical activities that incorporate singing, dancing, and playing instruments. Based on Kodaly and Orff philosophies of music education, the program fosters musical development, while the kids just think they are having fun. On whatem choo, the teaching team(Shelley Hicks, Denise Hollingworth, Bron Lawson) share a collection of the kids’ favourites which include traditional children’s songs and fabulous originals. www.geelongyouthchoir.com

dadhouse
As the boys in madhouse started to age, get married and have kids, they slowly evolved into dadhouse. It was inevitable that a kids party would lead to a need for a kids band - that’s how the giggles got together. It was only later when they assumed the mantle, dadhouse, that it became more than just a bit of family fun…

At GYC, young people aged 5-20 years enjoy a wide range of quality music, build confidence in performance and develop their musicianship and vocal skills through Kodály-based programs. The Geelong Youth Choir has five levels catering for beginners to advanced singers and welcomes all children to come along and experience the joy of singing together! www.geelongyouthchoir.com

The ensemble owns a rich collection of sheet music, instruments, costumes and choreographies, which result in an impressive choreographic and musical repertoire.

Daniel Hofmann
Daniel Hofmann is a Geelong guitarist, singer and songwriter. Having a desire to play the guitar since five years old, it took more than ten years for this dream to become a reality. Since then, he has honed his skills through Courthouse Youth Arts programs, local performances and song writing competitions. “Sally the Alien” is somewhat of a change from his usual ballad and folk styling.

Kar Kidz
Rich Helmer’s brain-child, Kar Kidz, brings together the cheeky, exuberant force of Alicia, Leah and Emilie, with the slightly more mature influence of Sarah and Declan. Although accustomed to a more lyrical repertoire, the kidz leapt at the opportunity to explore their inner rap artist with the guidance of Rich Helmer. Rich has played drums since he was two, started writing songs at age 6 with his cousin and later with his brother and eventually began learning guitar at age 16. He regularly performs with local musos and has gone on to invent invisible instruments so he doesn’t have to cart as much gear around. Becoming a dad has significantly influenced his song writing style. Now - road trip anyone?

Lucy Jones
Lucy Jones is a performing artist with over 20 years experience. After graduating from WAAPA, Jones created and performed in award-winning music theatre shows for the Melbourne Fringe, and composed music for Melbourne Workers Theatre, Postcard Productions, and various short films. She has taught music to Montessori pre-schoolers, and runs music programs in primary schools for The Song Room.

Love That!
Lucy used to love singing in the shower… until she met Deb… Deb used to love humming over housework… until she met Meredith… Meredith used to love crooning to the grandchildren… until she met Sharon… Sharon had a nice quiet life… until she met these three. Now they all sing together… and they LOVE THAT!

Offbeat
Offbeat are a performance group from Hamlyn Banks Primary School in Geelong. Comprised of students from grades 1 to 6, they take delight in performing at a large variety of venues. The six students involved in this CD are only a small part of the 50-strong performance group. Under the leadership of their teacher, Lorraine Hall, Offbeat have performed at Federation Square in Melbourne and in 3 Schools Spectacular performances.

Swing It!!
“Swing It!!” have been performing
Neo-Swing style dance music for the past eight years. The group originally started out as a blues project but the addition of horns opened up new possibilities in exploring the sounds of the big-band era of the 1930s and 40s and the swing revival of the 1990s.With a strong rhythmic element and contemporary arrangements, the band captures the dynamic essence of modern swing. www.swingitgeelong.com
